More details on Tori Amos’s new album “Night Of Hunters!”

3

Okay, we just received a press release about the new Tori Amos album Night Of Huntersand we don’t feel like regurgitating it. So, we will post it verbatim. Here:

“With more than 12 million albums sold and multiple Grammy nominations, Tori Amos is one of the most successful and influential artists of her generation. A pioneer across multiple platforms, she was the first major-label artist to offer a single for download, has had her songs turned into graphic novels, and has produced pioneering videos throughout her career. She is renowned for her passionate and broad fan-base, her critically and commercially successful tours, and her ever-evolving live show.

The latest addition to Amos’s series of ground-breaking recordings, Night of Hunters, is her twelfth studio album and her first for Deutsche Grammophon. This 21st-century song cycle takes its inspiration from classical pieces spanning the last 400 years, by composers ranging from Bach and Schubert to Granados and Satie, and marks the return of Amos’s piano to centre stage. It is also her first studio album exclusively involving acoustic instruments. The songs are arranged for string quartet and flute, oboe, English horn, clarinet, bassoon and contrabassoon in various formations. For the recording Amos has put together an ensemble of outstanding performers from the classical world, including the award-winning young Polish string quartet Apollon Musagète and Berlin Philharmonic principal clarinettist Andreas Ottensamer.

With Night of Hunters, which she wrote and produced, Amos carries on the tradition of variations on a theme to create a bold new work while paying tribute to the mastery of the original compositions. In her own words: “I have used the structure of a classical song cycle to tell an ongoing, modern story. The protagonist is a woman who finds herself in the dying embers of a relationship. In the course of one night she goes through an initiation of sorts that leads her to reinvent herself, allowing the listener to follow her on a journey to explore complex musical and emotional subject matter. One of the main themes explored on this album is the hunter and the hunted and how both exist within us.”

Geri Halliwell almost ready to release new album!

1

The wait is almost over. The Ginger one is back to amuse us with her fourth album and we have to admit – we love us some Geri Halliwell albums. We secretly feel she was the driving force behind the Spice Girls (although we love all the girls). This time around Geri is doing it for the sake of doing it not to prove a point like on the lackluster Passion. So, the album’s almost finished she has said publicly. Let’s hope the album spawns hits like “Bag It Up” and “Ride It.”

Sexy Track: “Do You Remember” by Ane Brun

3

Everyone knows Norway’s Ane Brun can bring a melancholy winter like no one can. She can bring up down from the highest tops, just listen to any of her album cuts and you will want to slit something. Some downer songs are lovely, but Ane Brun has decided to take her artistic vision to a new level and explore some more upbeat rhythms. on “Do You Remember” Ane Brun divorces sadness in a quest for some foot-tapping goodness. Of course, the biggest draw has stayed the same – that layered voice. The vocals on this track make the song. The beats are nothing new, but the chorus will take you to another level. A true ode to nostalgia dressed as a clapping song. This is not just a great track, but proof that great artists don’t falter by exploring new genres.

First Listen: “Sophia” by Laura Marling

The princess of gloom is back with her third album and this slated to be the single off of it, it’s a little louder than what we are used to from the sombre one, but doesn’t stray away from the original sound that she crafted with her previous albums. Don’t Quote Me, Vol. 555

[When asked: "Are you going to turn into a diva?"] “I’m probably already one, if that means that you don’t give a fuck about people’s opinions. I don’t suffer fools gladly. I’m not here to make friends. I’ve learnt that the hard way – I used to not say things like ‘I really want to hold a guitar in my video,’ because I was trying to make everyone like me. But I don’t give a fuck now. At the end of the day I’m there to do my job, I’m not there to have picnics. So, if that’s being a diva then yeah, I will be one. “

Bjork is back with a visual to titivate and show all the little boys and girls what a great video should be like. The song is a grower and we absolutely adore the ambient part towards the end. Nicola Roberts’ first single “Beat Of My Drum” might have not gotten the attention that is should have, but that is not stopping the campaign for her debut album Cinderella’s Eyes in its tracks. Don’t Quote Me, Vol. 554

“I’m not religious at all. I think faith is something that gives you strength. I believe in fate and I believe that things happen for a reason but I don’t think that there’s a high power, necessarily. I believe in karma very much though. There are so many rude people around and they’re the people that don’t have any real friends. And relationships with people – with your mum, your nan, your dog – are what you get the most happiness in life from. Apart from shoes and bags. “

- Amy Winehouse

A lot his changed for this date, even though I don’t feel a day over 21 (Okay, maybe 24)! AM (above) who is an avid reader of the blog dropped us a video, which was very nice of him and was one of the things that made my day! Thank you, again.
