Video Premiere: “Waka Waka (This Time For Africa)” by Shakira

9 06 2010

They had to pick Shakira to represent Africa? Why? is Africa short of beautiful women with great voices? Lira should have done this and if she doesn’t open the games then this is just an African event by name, at least for us music fans who don’t give two shits about football.

The recent Erykah Badu sample of Ndugu & The Chocolate Jam Co.’s “Take Some Time” on her magnificent song “Umm Hmm” brought back some beautiful old lissom melodies.

Video: “Time Lapse Lifeline” by Maria Taylor

16 02 2010

We have forgotten Maria Taylor for a bit even though we loved her last video. But, now that we are in the same exact spot that we discovered her we went for a little rummage and found this second single video. Not as good as “Cartoons & Forever Plans,” but still cute.

It’s time for progress…

20 10 2009

loftawashAll this name-calling and insult-flinging has gotten us thinking. Since when has an opinion been valid if it is not well-researched. This age of misinformation has made a way for all conservatives to turn any word into a curse word. Conservatives are willing to go the length and make Nazi comparisons with people without actually knowing that Nazism is closer to their turf than anyone else’s. Another term being branded as an insult is “socialist.” This coming from people who wouldn’t know Karl Marx from Richard Marx. Liberals have been too quiet for too long. The free-thinkers of the world, with their appreciation and respect for other people’s opinions, have let delinquents pave a way for their miseducation. A full-blown assault on progression has been launched as a result of this live-and-let-live mindset. It’s time to fight ignorance in full-force. If someone speaks about something you disagree with it’s time not to shrug and let it go by. Because this world is in dire need for progress in order to live. It’s time.

Stephen Gately of Boyzone fame has died in Majorca!

11 10 2009

Boyzone band member and solo artist Stephen Gately was found dead in a Majorca hotel room this morning. As of now, there are no report on the cause of death. But, he has been out drinking and then went back to sleep and never woke up. The singer was there on vacation from work as he recently reunited with Boyzone for a comeback tour and album. He is survived by Andy Cowles his life-partner whom he married back in 2006. We actually loved his vocals on all the Boyzone tracks and we also liked his solo album. He was 33. Sad day! His coming out was so intrinsic.

wk_time_table_med_6

Busy buddy? This table’s for you. It’s a table that keeps track of time incase you need to keep those meetings short. It has bars that indicate time running down the middle of it to show you how far you’ve went on and how far you have to go. It’s a novel idea. Read about it here.

The album wars: Mariah Carey vs. Madonna

24 08 2009

mariah-vs-madonna

Mariah Carey has pushed back her album to make room for a second single and now she is going head-to-head with Madonna. Mariah had to postpone Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel to ready up a ballad single and to avoid messing up Whitney Houston’s comeback. Meanwhile, Madonna fans are quick to point out that “Obsessed”  was a flop because it peaked at #11 and didn’t break the top 10 completely omitting the fact that Madonna last three singles didn’t even break the top 50. “Celebration” is currently sitting pretty at glorious and successful #71. Madonna wishes she has an “Obsessed” position. You know she loves commercial success no matter how much she compromises her musical integrity.

It’s here: Jay Leno’s last show

30 05 2009

It’s been quite the 18 years for Jay Leno. Coming out as a stand-up who did gigs for nuns and then becoming on of the most highly respected people in the world of media. It’s his last show tonight as the host. Next week Conan takes over. Although, i am I think O’Brian is hella cool, it’s just be different that he is no longer the it-man, so to speak. David Letterman’s lingering on. If I were Jay I would guest on the Letterman show for good old times sake. He’ll have another show, but I am not sure how different it will be. Jay Leno’s biography is one of the first books I ever read. I felt like I knew him. Lol. That’s a bit stalkerazzi isnt it. Anyway, it’s the time of change and here comes change.

Snow in Kuwait…

7 11 2008

isnow

As we see the rain showers escalate in Kuwait, the weather takes a sharp turn to cold. I have to say that that is the fastest switch to winter I have experienced here in the desert. I heard of reports last year that the Northern Saudi desert got a thin coating of snow.

What a great time to listen to Anggun’s “Snow On The Sahara.”

I keep wondering if this will ever reach Kuwait. I have experienced hard hailing here, but never snowflakes. And as we near the next Ice Age because of the affects of global warming, it is not as unlikely to see snowfall as it used to be. It’s not like it will happen now, but it’s not far-fetched. According to wikipedia: “planar crystals (thin and flat) grow in air between 0 °C (32 °F) and −3 °C (27 °F),” which are not unfathomable numbers. So, we might see it.
