Visit Montenegro!

2

We had the privilege of visiting some cities in Montenegro on our Adriatic trip and felt compelled enough to write about this undiscovered beautiful destination. It’s on of the world’s youngest countries, but its beauty rivals any other European destination. The way the mountains sit around each other with seawater all around them in one of the most historical bays in the world. Simply breathtaking and truly one of the most marvelous peoples we have been to. Glad to make Montenegro #59.

M.I.A. goes on a tirade against New York Times

M.I.A. has gone out on the attack on Twitter against the New York Times to make Sri Lanka the #1 destination to visit in 2010. The New York Times releases it’s annual article on tourism for 2010 and listed Sri Lanka on the top spot. M.I.A. went on a tirade criticizing this decision and posting graphic pictures of death and torture of Tamil civilians. Click below to read the Twitter rant. We previously agreed with the Sri Lanka choice on the blog, because we remember how lovely it was, but we can understand where she is coming from. An oppressive government should not get tourist dollars without the consideration of it’s humanitarian atrocities.

Astana is the next Dubai

1

Borat really didn’t do Kazakhstan justice. Neither did he do gay culture justice with Bruno, but that’s another topic. The truth is all the -stans are really all burgeoning into a prosperous region for their fairly young independent history. Doha has always wanted to be the next Dubai, but Astana is more like it. They have many million-dollar projects going on as you can see in the video, that Astana, a small city of just under a million heads, is bound to be the next big metropolis, especially considering that that part of the world is in need of focal point of commerce and culture. Astana might be it.

Mexico: Swine flu takes over, followed by earthquake

1

mexicopork5As the world stays wide alert about this epidemic that is responsible for killing 50 a century ago and hopes it will not turn into a pandemic, the non-sensical conservatives are at it again. On one side the American conservatives are touting stricter border control regulations and a crackdown on immigration to curb this epidemic which has allegedly spread from Mexico. One the other, the islamist fundamentalists, beardists, fanatics or whatever you want to call them these days, are glorifying it as some sign from the heavens that pork is all kinds of evil.

I Am In: Warsaw, Poland

1

Other than the fact that we are the brownest people around, Warsaw is turing out to be a lovely city with many things to do. It’s reputation of being a gray and dull city is long gone. Yet, the Eastern European feel has yet to whither away following the country’s entrance into the European Union. The old city is whimsical and feels like it came out of a fairy tale. The food is, surprisingly, exceptional with Polish dishes reigning supreme, especially meats and soups. The cold is bitter and unforgiving, but I guess that’s what you get when you go to Poland in March. The communist architecture and old world atmosphere makes up for it. So far, spectacular.

Preparing for Vietnam

1

I am finding great fun in planning the trip as I read the history of Vietnam. I realized how much there is to know about the Vietnam War even as I studied it. I read about My Lai. The horror the happened there. About the separation and reunification, the changing of the Saigon’s name to Ho Chi Minh City and a lot more. I am mighty excited. I am dreading the plan, though. But, I am sure they will have some nice Bordeaux.
