M.I.A. flips the finger amidst Madonna’s Superbowl performance!

2

While Madonna’s performance has its ups, downfalls and an “almost fall,” the real star of the Superbowl was none other than M.I.A., who shocked every conservative American parent in the bible belt by flipping her finger in the middle of her rap during Madonna’s new single “Give Me All Your Luvin’.” No word on whether it was intended, but it was fast, yet sexy. Knowing Madonna’s work ethic, it would properly piss her off had it been unannounced. You know? How dare she upstage Madge!

Video Premiere: “The Shallow End” by Sam Sparro

Sam Sparro has a new album coming our soon called Return To Paradise. It’s been a while since he hit it big last, but the buzz singles like “Pink Cloud” and “Yous A Nasty” are even better than the previous singles, which is why we are so excited for this project!

Santigold’s new album is called…

2

Santigold announced that the follow-up of Santogold would be out in spring 2012. It was recorded in part in Jamaica. She described her forthcoming album as “sonically eclectic but with some epic curveballs thrown into the mix”. We waited and waited. I have a song called “The Keepers”: “we’re the keepers, while we sleep in America our house is burning down”. ”Big Mouth,” the first track and video from the album was issued in late just a week ago.  So, click below for the name of the new album!

Etta James has passed away!

2

Legendary blues singer Etta James, who is most famous for her rendition of “At Last,” has passed away. Etta is one of the movers and shakers of pop history and no diva is the same without her legacy. Beyonce played her in Cadillac Records (Not to Etta James’ liking) and she revolutionized her genre to another level. Sad to hear of her passing. She has passed away at the age of 73.

Sexy Track: “Down” by Emily King

This is the third time Emily King has scored a “Sexy Track” from the same EP, Seven, which means you should get it now! In the same mood as the other ones, including “Ever After” and “Georgia,” but this is a slower grower, if it makes any sense. It’s a sombre-toned number soaking in agony and what feels like a dab of remorse. In keeping with the mood of  the disc, yet not too overwhelming drab in melancholy essence.

Joan Osborne releases new single “Shake Your Hips”

Just when we episodically forgot about the lovely Joan Osborne, we are sent a link to some great news. The “One Of Us” singer is ready to give the world more music and more covers, which is what she is well-known for. This time her new album Bring It On Home, is a collection of blues classics. The first single is now out on iTunes. It’s called “Shake Your Hips.” Let’s hope it packs the punch!

Scissor Sisters coming to Abu Dhabi, UAE!

The ever-so-risque Scissor Sisters are going to take on Yas Island! The chart topping band will be bringing their widely loved and infectious dance floor anthems to the FLASH Forum this January. Known for their humorous and often controversial performances, the band’s unique mix of disco, New York electro and good old fashioned Elton John-era rock n’ roll is widely loved right across the globe. I wonder how they will do the gold leotards in the UAE.

Is Jon Bon Jovi dead?

1

Twitter’s #1 trending topic worldwide right now is Jon Bon Jovi. The rumor is that the “Chelsea Girl” singer is dead. No news yet that is official and a part of us feels like some people could have phonetically mistake the lead singer of Bon Jovi with Kim Jong Il. Maybe? What do you think. I hope he didn’t pass away.

UPDATE: He’s not.

Free Alana Davis! Sign the petition…

26

To: Alana Davis, her band and Co.

We the undersigned fans and loving devotees of Alana Davis, respectfully ask Davis to release an album as soon as possible. We have waited and waited for a long time to no avail. Not only that, but no news on the musical career of Alana Davis has come our way in ages. The lovely melodies of Alana Davis came our way with the epic Blame It On Me, swept us further with Fortune Cookies and then gave us another dosage with Surrender Dorothy. Now, we are left addicted and yearning for more from one of the best and most underrated artists, singers and songwriters of our time. Great musicians are a rare commodity and we would hate to have Alana Davis’s music vanish from our lives. All we ask for is some more material as soon as possible. A single, EP, live album or (most preferbly) a full-length album would bring joy into our lives and soothe our consciousness. Please take the time out to consider our wishes, as we have been loyal fans since the beginning of your career.

Please take time out to sign this petition by leaving your name, email in the comments section below.

Madonna working with M.I.A. and Nicki Minaj on new album!

2

Apparently, M.I.A. has allegedly informed all that Madonna has summoned her to come to New York City to work with her and Nicki Minaj. Some say that it will be for the single rework of “Give Me All Your Love,” which is stolen from Nicola Roberts’ “Beat Of My Drum,” if you ask us. Other says its for the remixes of the song. At any rate, we are glad that Madonna is stealing from M.I.A. because she might as well steal from greats. At any rate, we hope she doesn’t suck her soul. Click here to read more.

Video Premiere: “Silence (Bag Raiders Mix)” by The Ting Tings

1

The Tings Tings are trying to make room for their sophomore album, but so far everything the have been released isn’t up to par to their striking debut. This dance song is neither here nor there and the earlier “Hands” sounds like a B-Side from their older singles. It’s just not the same, this is quite excruciating to listen to.

Adam Lambert’s new album is called…

1

Adam Lambert might not have won American Idol, but he is doing better than the ones who have (hello, Rubben Studdard). The glam icon is back with a new album following his successful debut and live CD. The sophomore full-lengther is going to be called…

Video Premiere: “Pump With Me” by Sahara Davenport

1

This is probably one of the best (in comparison) tracks to come out of RuPaul’s Drag Race contestants, but the video is so camp without trying to be – it’s a little painful. Also, Sahara Davenoport looks much older. We expected a little Manila Luzon cameo appearance.

Exclusive: 5 Questions With Loft965.com: Lira

2

1. Greetings from Kuwait! Loft965.com picked “Phakade”  and “Mali” as a “Sexy Tracks” of 2011! How do you feel about that and what do you think the rest of the year holds for you?

Amazing, I did not expect that the African songs would resonate but I think this is very exciting! Thank you! I’m going to spend the rest of the year taking advantage of Southern African Festival season so that I can reach more fans.

2. As of now, “Mali” is constantly on our stereos! Will it ever get released as a single?

It is currently one of our singles in South Africa.

3. You just released an EP for your American audience. Are you planning on launching your new album there and when will it be?

I’m planning to launch a full album  titled Rise Again in early 2012 and then follow it up with a tour from the end of January. The album is a combination of tracks from Feel Good, Soul in Mind but mainly containing new tracks from my Return to Love album.

4. Are you going on tour? What will be your next single?

Yes my tour will span over the entire North America and it will be 60 days long!

5. We love quotes, what is your favorite quote or motto?

I post so many on my twitter and facebook page periodically. My favourite one from this week is “Jealousy is the art of counting someone else’s blessings instead of your own.”

And we are off to Cape Town now! For reals!

Legendary: “What A Difference A Day Makes” by Esther Phillips

1

Esther Phillips is one of the lesser-known soul artists. She started her career singing soul and jazz standards, but here she is doing some disco, which she became a staple of towards the end of her career. She is an artist’s-artist. So much so that Aretha Franklin offered her 1973 Grammy win to Esther who was also nominated. She was not very well-understood in the industry and her voice was so unique that, at times, her record company did not know how to package or sell it. As you can tell, nobody is quite like Esther Phillips vocally. Unfortunately, Esther is no longer with us having died from liver failure due to drug use, but her legacy still remains. It was a great please reading up on Esther Phillips and watching all the YouTube videos that remain from her legacy.

Introducing… Andrea Simms-Karp

1

Andrea Simms-Karp is an indie roots powerhouse, drawing on folk, pop and classical vibes to create a sound both fresh and familiar. The Ottawa native grew up taking classical voice lessons, singing in choirs, and getting steeped in folk music. She’s been stunning local audiences with her clear voice and unique musical style in live shows for over a decade.

In 2004, the Ottawa Folk Festival recognized her talent by awarding her the Beth Ferguson Award for songwriting. With her debut album Sleeper, however, she garnered national attention.

Powering through album charts at campus and community radio stations, Simms-Karp then won the hearts of people across the country with an appearance on Stuart McLean’s Vinyl Café in September 2009.

Her upcoming album Hibernation Nation promises to deliver more of what people love. Soaring harmonies, a sweet banjo sound, and finely-tuned storytelling make this an album to anticipate. As the title intimates, it’s an album for people holed up, watching fierce winter weather from inside. It’s an album borne of wind and snow, of a deep appreciation for the stillness that comes with frigid weather.

We ♥ Lana Del Rey

4

Soko tweeted her disapproval of a singer named Lana Del Rey on twitter and we couldn’t help but YouTube her. What we found is an unsurpassed beauty with great pipes and haunting lyrics administrated with lazy vocals. A potent and somewhat new formula for her kind a music – a fusion between old-hollywood glamor with a strong jazz sensibility. After listening to “Yayo” and “Video Games” we have fallen in love with this lovely singer. She carries herself with poise and is not afraid to challenge the ideals of vocal rules with her sound. Genre cross-breads rarely sound so scrumptious and when they do they break new ground in the pop world, like what Amy Winehouse did. We look forward to hearing from Lizzy Grant, her real name.

Rufus Wainwright & Sean Lennon cover Madonna’s “Material Girl” at #OccupyWallStreet

2

It might seem dichotomous and down-right wrong to sing this song at the Wall Street protests, but we think they are either parodying it or just using some playful irony. They are certainly not cheering about “livin’ in a material world.” In any case, the spirit of the protesters are high and we hope reform comes out of this. This system the world lives in is stale and backwards. No one is benefitting except the greedy. It’s about time socialism wasn’t thought of as a dirty word. As long as one person lives in poverty, we all live in poverty.
