Frankie Goes To Hollywood’s frontman Holly Johnson has put together a greatests hits compilation titled Frankie Say Greatest. This coincides with Q magazine’s naming of “Relax” as a “Classic Single” after 25 years of release. It’s been 25! This video is a re-issue of the classic with new sexy beats and a video that pays tribute to the original scandelous video. This song was banned from the BBC for being too racy. Record companies will try anything these days to sell you their product in this dwindling music industry. Cheryl Cole’s new album is coming as a limited edition, too. The package will have a bag and a calendar, an LP and other things. It’s apparently the “fan version.” No word on how much that will sell, but since she’s not touring, why not put the merchandise with the album and then ask for a higher price? Three Words sounds like it will be a disaster!
One of our favorites has covered a song from another of our favorites. Erik Hassle, who is amidst his campaign promoting Pieces, has covered 2009′s it-band La Roux’s second single “In For The Kill.” This is an marvelous acoustic version. He should record it and make it a B-side on one of his singles.
We got out our 3D glasses for this one and it’s a totally different treat than the other version. It’s a little surreal and makes us want to go to London for a hot minute.
Amy Winehouse is done with Blake and ready to take over again. She has recently made a public appearance with The Specials at the V Festival. She sang an old song of theirs from 1979 titled “You’re Wondering Now.” She looked sober and didn’t trip at all or hit a fan. We can’t wait for the new material from Winehouse and her father.
Well thought-out covers are always a great surprise. This little feminist ditty would have disappeared into 90s’ indie oblivion had it not been for it’s great lyrical prowess and simple melody. Truly a gem that needs to be unearthed.
She really turned the early 90s’ dance floor stomper into a deep and eloquent ballad. If you ask me, it should have been on the album, but I hear it’s on the set list on her live shows. She is really growing on me. Bible Belt is one of the best albums of the year. It’s vintage without trying to hard, soulful but without overproduction or vinyl scratches for authenticity, a la Christina Aguilera.
I just got my cyberhands on Junior. Sounds scrumptious.
Apparently, it hasn’t been released in Germany and it is getting a release date exactly a year later there. I don’t know how the promotion will go and to be frank, I think she shouldn’t promote it and just go ahead and do the Zero 7 project everyone’s been waiting for. Maybe she’ll do it from there.
Will you please just let this song rest for a while. Please? It did not need another re-recording or cover version or remix or charity event. Leave it with Music Box and commence with something new. Get in the studio with David Morales for a nice remix or two of the next single. Have a baby, cancel a tour or release another fragrance. Anything but re-visiting “Hero.”
