Bill Maher should have gotten a nomination

200px-religulous_posterIf you ask me, and i am being totally baised again, Bill Maher’s fantastical documentary “Religulous” should have been at least nominated for the oscars. The Academy Awards are known for being a little light on liberalism (Paradise Now’s loss) and high on pomp (Heath Ledger winning). The documentary was unlike any other and it deserved some kudos, especially for such a crucial subject rarely visited. It’s out now on DVD, so go get it.

Amazing Girls Aloud performance on the Brits

Finally, the girls get the recognition they deserve. What a lovely performance introduced by, none other than the real queen of pop, Kylie Minogue. On top of that they got their first Brit for “The Promise.” Everyone was amazed they beat Coldplay, I wasn’t. They’re like U2, their fans are so defense about that that they can’t do wrong. Movie: Slumdog Millionaire स्लमडॉग मिलिनेयर (2008)

slumdog_millionaire_poster With all the hype surrounding it and the fact that M.I.A. is heavily featured on the soundtrack, I had to check the movie out from the same director that gave us Trainspotting, 28 Days Later and Millions

The movie is a slice of freshness from a perspective rarely voiced in mainstream cinema. This 15 million dollar budgeted flick follows Jamal Malik’s entire young life while splicing How Wants To Be A Millionaire questions between events. 

The plot takes turns and twists as he becomes a young man of courage and independence. The character is belittled by everyone for being a menial chaiwalla, he proves himself through poverty, betrayal, corruption, the mafia, being orphaned at an early age and jumping in a pool of shit just to get Amitabh Bachchan’s autograph.
