One of the greatest singer-songwriters of our time (and holder of the #1 position in Loft965.com’s year-end album charts for 2008) has decided to sell her entire impressive catalogue from 1993′s Tuesday Night Music Club to 2008′s Detours to a London/Dublin- based company called Variety – S1 Songs Group. This will encompass all 153 songs that Crow has released in her career and the rights to the next two albums.

Obama coins “Stupidly”

2

SpareChangefish_500In reference to Cambridge police’s arrest of a black professor, Obama said that they acted “stupidly,” which is not a word in the english dictionary (abridged). I, personally, did not know it was not a word. It has a flaw with it and it makes complete sense. Now t-shirts are being made and everyone is using the term. Even if it wasn’t a word, the Cambridge police were racist and did act stupidly. And now that obama said it, it will be a word! If Beyonce can coin “Bootylicious” then Obama can definitely make “Stupidly.” At least he didn’t go to far on a limb and tried to make “internets,” “nookyolar” or “truthiness” happen like the buffoon before him.

Clock-in modernity and minimalism

black-white-clock

All you really need are the digits. No ticker, no date, no frame at all. It’s a bunch of digit-8 looking objects that you place wherever you like and it will give you the time. I am guessing each one works for something, like clocks-in hours, another does the second-digit hour, another does minutes and it goes on. It looks real sexy up on a wall, it could turn a bleak wall into a piece of minimalist art.

En Vogue have reunited

7_En_Vogue_2008_-_Troy_Jensen_M&P

The funky divas of the 90s’ – En Vogue – are back together. This is the newest promo photo for their new venture. No more three-legged neosoul, or bitch-slap servings from Dawn Robinson. The foursome, as we have come to know them and love them, are back and even a Terry Ellis album can’t break them apart. They are doing some obscure festival dates to test their selves out and then pacing an album together. The still look sexual and healthy and weave-y. I can’t wait for their comeback. Now, we have to wait for For Real and Zhané (pronounced Ja-Nay).

Don’t Quote Me, Vol. 191

“…the most influential journeys I have had have been with Ayahuasca, the vine from the Amazon, the combination of that and mushrooms. They give me the trots and such! It’s very much a medicine woman, medicine man’s journey drug, where you go inside. It’s not a social thing. It’s an internal experience. I experiment with things that are usually an internal experience, because that’s just what excites me. And yes, it does sometimes give me visions. But my intention when I am doing it is very different than recreational. I don’t do it recreationally. I do it to go do inner work, and I’m very clear before I do it what I’m searching for. That way, there’s no abuse suffered and I don’t rely on it. It’s just one more tool that I use sometimes.” – Tori Amos

Introducing… Diva Davanna

The republican party gets kicked out after 8 years of hatemongering and everything fabulous and wonderous comes back better and brighter. First lush dance music is back and celebrated (GaGa, LadyHawke, La Roux, Antigone), drag makes one of the fiercest comebacks (RuPaul’s Drag Race, The Tyra Banks Show) and voguing is back and better than ever. Diva Davanna, from the one and only House Of Latex, is a tiny marvel here to show you how to werq. She is becoming quiet the headliner at balls and she deserves it.

Melanie B works out on tape…

51qqbjfuvsl_ss500_” I never looked better, now you can, too,” is what it says on the cover. I didn’t see this one coming. One minute she sells 604 copies of her last album in the UK, the next she is all over the place. Could be Eddie Murphy or the Spice reunion or Dancing With The Stars. I don’t know why she did this. I wonder how much she makes from such a video. She’s looking good, though.

Ladyhawke gets fruity

I don’t get why her music is an apple, if she is allergic.

Introducing… Erin McCarley

000-erin_mccarley-love_save_the_empty-2009-frontLove, Save The Empty is Erin McCarley’s debut album and it is a mixture of pompous folk and moody rock. It is like a cross between Sheryl Crow, KT Tunstall and Chantal Kreviazuk. My current favorites are “Blue Suitcase” and “Sticky Sweet.” I watched he perform live on David Letterman and she was great. I am looking forward to listening more.
