Medina duets with Tina Dico live!

16 08 2010

Wow, we didn’t think these two would come together like this. We knew they are both Danish, but they are from to totally different genres. Tina Dico masters folk and Medina does club beats. But, this is impeccable is gave us goosebumps. They performed two songs, one from each artist’s catalogue. Marvelous live performance, we wish we were there.

Legendary: “That Thing You Do!” by The Wonders

A faux-60s’ track made especially for this fictitious story of one-hit wonders, the Wonders. Lovely track.

David Morales to release song titled “I Make You Gaga”

9 08 2010

Nice to see that David Morales is still poppin’ dem beats. He is one of the 90s’ best remixers and revolutionized some aspects of house music. We wonder what this song is about but we have a feeling it will run along the line of Junior Vasquez’s “If Madonna Calls.”

The 90s’ called, they want their outfits and beats back.

The only especially good track on Bionic gets a nice cover. We like the staccato in the beginning!

Christina Aguilera has finalized the decision to release the SiA-penned ballad as her second single in a bid to save her album from completely tanking. If there is one song that is to be salvaged from the mess that is Bionic it’s “You Lost Me.” Not to sure how a ballad will function these days’ charts, but it’s better than anything else she has.

The Saturdays call third album “Headlines”

24 06 2010

The Saturday will release an album that contains new tracks and some cut from the previous album. Not so sure why, but it will be called Headlines and the first single from this half-effort is “Missing You.”

Legendary: “Get Along With You” by Kelis

19 06 2010

We fell in love with Kelis at her second single “Good Stuff” – a prime example that a beat doesn’t have to be overwhelming for the song to be strong. It was the harbinger for tracks like Britney Spears’ “Boys.”  But the track that followed it (this one) was more of a statement. Stark, naked and beautiful relying heavily on Kelis’s vocal ability and dirty beat from the Neptunes.

One of the standout tracks on SiA’s perfect We Are Born sounds even better live. And the dress is fantabulous, too.

Everyone thought that “History” was going to be the new single from Groove Armada’s new album Black Light, mainly because they did it on a couple of shows. It’s a great tune, so they are probably keeping it for later.

Legendary: “Happy Sad” by Gemma Hayes

23 05 2010

We have been following Gemma Hayes since her first EP and we continue to find gems on each and every release she offers. She has been quiet for a bit now, but this classic reminds us of her songwriting prowess and unconventional voice. This song manages to capture the lull of life after a certain happening that might be bittersweet or just bitter. Feeling “Happy Sad” is a state of sweet epiphany with a dull goodbye. The whole album, The Roads Don’t Love You, captures this fleeting of emotions in the journey of life. Good stuff.

Don’t Quote Me, Vol. 391

23 05 2010

“I’d like to go to all the pretty parties
where all the pretty people go
and I ain’t really all that pretty
but nobody will know
cuz everybody loves you
when you’re a star
and nobody questions
what it takes to go that far”

Legendary: “You Are The Universe” by Brand New Heavies

20 05 2010

If we had our way, we’d bring the ill-fated genre of Acid Jazz right back. It was a great fusion of jazz, soul and funk all in the name of dance. It was pioneered by this band, Jamiroquai and Incognito. This is just a big slice of a good time on bpm.
